Dr Ashok Gunawardene, BSc MBChB(Hons) MRCS PhD FRACS
Dr Ashok is an accomplished surgeon with a diverse skill-set that has been refined through years of training in the United Kingdom, New Zealand and Australia. He has a caring attitude and takes a considered approach to each and every one of his patients.
His specialist interests include laparoscopic surgery for gallstone disease, hernia and acid reflux. He is also a GESA-accredited practitioner in upper and lower GI endoscopy.

- MBChB(Hons) - Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery. Awarded degree with Honours by University of Birmingham
- MRCS - Member of Royal College of Surgeons of England
- PhD - Doctor of Philosophy. University of Otago
- FRACS - Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in General Surgery
Dr Ashok is an Examiner for the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS) and teaches surgical skills to junior surgeons as a RACS course instructor.
He has a strong research background including a PhD and has published widely. He applies his academic background by incorporating the most up-to-date scientific evidence into his practice.
When he is not at work he enjoys spending time with his young family, travelling and being out in nature.
