Dr Ashok Gunawardene BSc, MBChB (Hons), MRCS, PhD, FRACS is a registered general surgeon at Northern Surgical Care. He holds specialist fellowship status with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons and is accredited in upper and lower gastrointestinal endoscopy by the Gastroenterological Society of Australia. He completed his PhD investigating systemic inflammation and colorectal cancer outcomes, and his peer-reviewed research spans surgical oncology and minimally invasive procedures. Dr Gunawardene has practised across the UK, New Zealand and Australia and serves as an examiner and instructor for the RACS surgical skills programme. He is a member of professional bodies including AANZGOSA, ANZMOSS, GSA and IFSO.
